Swatch CEO Nick Hayek Jr: "The Apple watch is an interesting toy"

Speaking to the Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger (translation via The Guardian), Swatch CEO Nick Hayek Jr belittled the Apple Watch as an interesting toy that needed to be recharged daily, while bristling at the idea of giving up "blood pressure and blood sugar values" to "servers in Silicon Valley."

Hayek Jr thinks that Swatch may have a better smart watch solution arriving later this year, one that lasts 9 months without recharging and acts as an "alternative to the credit card, using near field communication," while doing seemingly little else outside "access control."

In other words Swatch will have a "smartwatch" that does much less while lasting longer, the exact opposite of what I'd like out of my Apple Watch.
