On the Millennium Falcon's missing fuzzy dice

Star Wars set decorator Roger Christian discusses his low budget prop techniques with the USA Today and offers up this “it was probably for the best” anecdote:

Christian does have one regret: He thought there was something missing from the Falcon's decor and he suggested hanging some dice in the cockpit like in the hot rods of Lucas' American Graffiti for good luck. The filmmaker picked a pair of chrome dice that made it into one scene, but director of photography Gilbert Taylor nixed them for the rest of the shoot because he felt they got in the way.

“They disappeared,” Christian says. “But I guess the luck worked.”

How 'Star Wars' made the most of space junk

Christian and his work will be highlighted in a bonus feature for the Star Wars Digital Movie Collection due to be released April 10 on iTunes.
