In 2012 Google hired author, inventor, Ray Kurzweil as director of engineering to work on “new projects involving machine learning and language processing.” and in early 2013 Google acqui-hired Geoffrey Hinton and his company DNNresearch to "work with some of the smartest engineering minds to tackle some of the biggest challenges in computer science."
